Common Terminology

What Does Some of
These Things Mean?

Cannabis culture is finally surfacing! And there is so much to learn… and starting with some simple terminology to help our patients understand what all this means..

CANNABIS 101

Toke Terminology

FECO
The traditional method of FECO (full extract cannabis oil) uses ethanol to extract all the terpenes, cannabinoids, THC/CBD, and other beneficial elements found in cannabis. FECO is produced at low temperatures and is often extracted utilizing ethanol or CO2 as a solvent. Through the use of this process, more of the cannabinoids are retained in the remaining resin extract.
RSO
RSO ( Rick Simpson Oil) uses naphtha. RSO is produced a higher temperatures and traditionally utilizes either alcohol or naphtha as a solvent. With high temperatures being used to boil off the solvent, many of the plant terpenes are lost in this process.
However, RSO does typically retain a greater amount of chlorophyll and the less evaporative plant compounds. This can result in an end product with very high levels on cannabinoids.
THC
binds itself to the CB1 receptors in the brain. The result is the release of dopamine by the ECS, which leads to the feelings of relaxation and euphoria associated with weed. When under the influence of THC, side effects include an impact on your concentration levels, not to mention your memory, sensory perception, and movement.
CBD
does not directly activate our brain’s CB1 receptors, meaning users don’t feel the same intoxicating effects. Instead, CBD seems to increase the level of endocannabinoids (2-AG and anandamide) in the body. There is evidence that CBD interacts with brain cells, including opioid receptors, which regulate pain, and dopamine receptors, which control behavior.
Delta-8
Delta-8 THC is a cannabinoid found in trace amounts in the cannabis plant. It is similar to the THC that causes a high—called delta-9 THC—but has much less potency. Delta-8 can be produced from hemp, which is legal to grow in the US since the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, making the cannabinoid popular in states that don’t have legal cannabis laws. However, because delta-8 can still cause a high, it is in a legal gray area, and producers only sell it in certain states SOURCE
Cannabinoids
It is one of a class of chemical compounds that act on the CB (cannabinoid) receptors in our endocannabinoid system (ECS).

Cannabis is well documented plant that has been studied throughout human history. Findings conclude this organic plant is a valuable resource for human and animals. Common usages are food, fuel, fiber, and most importantly, medicine.

Marijuana is unique and complex with numerous chemical compounds, including over 80 identified cannabinoids. Cannabinoid education teaches us that all components work together and explains the pros of the medical benefit. There are different strains which all inherently contain different profiles including medicinal qualities and potency.

Be sure to check out our benefits page to find out the positive impact these chemical compounds can make on your life.

Depending on your particular needs, one product may work better for you than another. Both RSO and FECO are used for their health benefits for individuals who need regular pain management, chronic ailments or inflammation. As the strongest medical cannabis product on the market, FECO oil and RSO oil also provide what’s called “The Entourage Effect”. With over 500 chemical compounds in cannabis, there are roughly 100 that are related to cannabinoids. Many medical researchers are discovering and suggesting that complete cannabinoid and terpene profiles found in a single product, can have some therapeutic value and benefits. Stating that they have a synergistic effect that aid each other. The recommended serving size for each product is a rice-grain-sized dose. Since the products are a cannabis concentrate, they can be taken orally, like applying directly underneath the tongue or add to a beverage, topped on food, or baked into a recipe. RSO may be ingested orally through a capsule, mixed into food or drink, or consumed as is. It may also be diluted with an ointment or lotion for topical absorption.

Cannabinoid Compound Class

THCV
The compound is believed to act as an agonist to some of THC’s effects in small amounts but potentially accentuates them in larger doses. If you find a strain with a lot of THCV, effects include a clear-headed psychedelic high that doesn’t last long but provides you with a burst of energy. (Way of leaf)
CBDV
is known for its anticonvulsant effects, which occur through the activation of an ion channel in the peripheral and central nervous system called TRPV1. It acts as a receptor and plays a role in the modulation of pain, as well as in its transmission. You will find higher levels of CBDV in strains with a lot of CBD.
CBG
is arguably one of the two most essential cannabinoids of all, yet few people have ever heard of it. It is the chemical parent of THC and CBD. In other words, both cannabinoids begin as CBG and wouldn’t exist without it. Although marijuana strains contain less than 1% of this cannabinoid, it is essential to produce the cannabinoids which provide medicinal benefits
CBC
non intoxicating and the 3rd most prevalent compound is find massive levels of CBC in landrace strains from India. It is more prevalent than CBD in a surprising number of strains. CBC also works well when combined with other cannabinoids in what is called the ‘entourage effect
CBN
is created when the marijuana plant’s THC degrades due to age or exposure to light. When ingested, Cannabinol provides you with a sedative effect that makes it ideal if you have insomnia. Steep Hill Labs claims that just 5mg of CBN is a more effective means to relax the body than 10mg of Valium (Way of Leaf)
THCA
does not share THC’s intoxicating properties. You only find it in raw and live cannabis. It is usually the main constituent of resin concentrates where it comprises anywhere from 50% to 90% of the weight. It is the acidic form of THC and converts to the psychoactive compound when decarboxylated (way of leaf)
CBDA
ou will find CBDA in raw hemp or any raw marijuana strain high in CBD. As is the case with THCA and THC, CBDA becomes CBD when decarboxylated.
CBGa
The researchers found that two cannabinoid acids commonly found in hemp varietals of cannabis, cannabigerolic acid, or CBGA, and cannabidiolic acid, also known as CBDA, can bind to the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19. By binding to the spike protein, the compounds can prevent the virus from entering cells and causing infection, potentially offering new avenues to prevent and treat the disease (Forbes)
